#samedwheels #Datsun240Z #Playart #EastAfricanSafariRally
On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Playart Datsun 240Z. Playart diecast cars were made in Hong Kong from 1965 to 1983. In the U.S., they were sold under a variety of brands marketed to different department stores.
According to my Wiki research, The Nissan S30 - sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z, but for export badged as the Datsun 240Z, and later as the Datsun 260Z and 280Z - are 2-seat sports cars and 2+2 GT cars produced by Nissan, from 1969 until 1978.
Aiming to compete directly with established European sports cars, Datsun priced the new 240Z within $200 of the British MGB-GT in the United States. The 240Z's styling, engineering, relatively low price, and impressive performance resonated with the public, received a positive response from both buyers and the motoring press, and immediately generated long waiting lists.
The Safari Rally is rally race run in East Africa. It was first held in 1953 as the East African Coronation Safari in Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika as a celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In 1960 it was renamed the East African Safari Rally and kept that name until 1974, when it became the Safari Rally.
Edgar Herrmann, a German-born Kenyan former rally driver notably won the Safari Rally in Kenya both in 1970 with a Datsun 1600 SSS and in 1971 with the #11 Datsun 240Z. In 1972, he took his 240Z to fifth place.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
Note: Due to the use of paint stripping chemicals and power tools, this channel is not intended for viewing by children. Age 14+ is recommended.
