I was disappointed when I saw that this would take a weed to arrive after I ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived several days earlier than expected.
It fit perfectly on my 2014 Grand Cherokee. The description is a bit generic. My dad has a bugflector from AVS on his Silverado, and his did indeed attached with 3M double sided tape (and some screws, as I recall).
On the Grand Cherokee, no 3M tape was included (nor was it mentioned in the instructions). On my vehicle, the deflector attached with several plastic screws, a metal clip, and a "self-tapping" screw in the center.
The plastic screws and metal clip installed very easily, but the self-tapping screw wasnt sturdy enough to screw through the bottom of the hood. The tip of the screw snapped off, so I picked up another one from Home Depot.
While it certainly seems possible that you could install the deflector without drilling a hole by screwing with the self-tapping screw, using a small drill bit to get a hole started saved me a great deal of time.
After a 900 mile trip this weekend, the bug deflector looks to have done its job.
Looks stunning, i thought I might need to take it to a body shop to get it installed. But everyone was charging $95 to install this small part.
I am a female and it took me about 30 minutes to figure it out and install everything all together and i am very pleased with the outcome!
The only problem I had installing it was that the self tapping screw would not. I needed to drill a pilot hole to get the screw in. For me, this is not a big deal.
The other holes lined up perfect. Took me about 20 minutes to install on my 2017 Jeep GC. Before this Jeep I had a 2004 Jeep GC that I drove for 13 years.
I also put a bug guard from AVS on it shortly after I bought it. It was still in perfect shape when I traded it in. I had also installed the AVS rain defectors on all 4 windows ( on my 2004) when I installed the bug guard.
They were also in perfect shape when I traded it in. I also have the AVS rain guards on my 2017 Jeep and my wifes 2011 KIA (since day one). Excellent product!
This dark smoke vent shade was very easy to install in about 15 minutes. The dark smoke color blends well with my blacked out Jeep. It also prevents chips on the front edge of hood, and also prevents rocks from hitting my windshield.
Overall I am very pleased with the smooth appearance and installation and protection of this vent shade. I highly recommend this product. They also provide vehicle specific criteria to make sure you get the right vent shade.
Thanks for the great product, fast shipping and ease of installation.
Not much to tell. The product is as advertised. The installation was easy, but as some have noted the mounting hardware can be improved. 1) The the plastic screw rivets are ok.
They use existing holes so thats good. Should give couple extra though. 2) the so called "self tapping" screw is just a small pointed screw. There is no tapping blades at the tip.
Luckily I had extra real self tapping screws. Btw, not sure why this has to be there. Just use a few more plastic screw rivets that align to the many other existing holes would work fine.
3) The metal hood clip on the drivers side. I think there can be alternate ways to mount around the air filter intake seal under the hood. So three different mounting methods.
